Tinting your windows can increase the value of the car. It can also reduce glares, making the car safer to drive, while also reducing heat and sun fading in the vehicle.
1. Dyed Film
The most commonly available and lowest cost tinting option is dyed film. Just as it sounds, dyed film is a tinting product that is darkened by dye. It comes in a range of shades and hues, so you can get just the amount of darkening you want in the shade of brown or gray that you desire. Dyed films do little more than reduce the amount of light coming through the window. They can also fade over time, which will necessitate a replacement.
2. Metal Tints
Metal tints contain small metallic particles. The particles reflect light and heat, effectively reducing glares, UV radiation, and sun fading in your vehicle. Most metal tints also use a dyed film, so you can choose the level of darkening that you would like in your car. When metal and dye are combined in a tint, you also get increased glare reduction and heat blocking effects.
3. Carbon Film
A step above metal tints is the carbon film. Instead of metallic particles, these films contain carbon particles which act to further reduce the amount of heat radiation that enters a vehicle. If your concern is maintaining a cool interior while also preventing upholstery fading, then a carbon film is a good solution. These also come with additional dyes to aid with darkening and glare reduction.
4. UV Crystalline Film
One drawback to many tinting methods is that there will be some window darkening. For those that wish to block glares and cut down on UV radiation without compromising clarity and visibility, UV crystalline films are the best option. These do not darken the windows a noticeable amount, so you can still easily see in and out of the car, but they will block glares and UV light.
5. Ceramic Tinting
Ceramic tints are considered the highest quality tinting option. The ceramic particles in this product block heat, glares, UV light, and solar radiation. It doesn't inhibit visibility, and you can decide the level of darkening desired. A major reason for the popularity of ceramic tinting is that it is also quite durable, so it won't fade nor will it easily become damaged.
